Radio Caroline

1960 Radio Caroline 14x6.25” Alerce (larch) snare drum, stave built from decking off the Ross Revenge, now Radio Caroline’s flagship. Alerce, a semi hardwood from Chile, is now an endangered species, but was used for ship’s masts due to its elasticity and lightness. The Ross Revenge, a former fishing trawler, is the third home to Radio Caroline, the famous pirate radio station founded in 1964. Complete with a 300-foot antenna and 50KW transmitter, she is currently anchored on the River Blackwater at Bradwell, Essex.
